Fall Beauty Trends for 2010

Autumn is one of the most exciting times of the year when it comes to beauty trends; no matter how old you get, it seems that you never quite lose that “back to school” feeling! Whatever your age, fall is the perfect time to revamp your beauty routine, try out new products and transition into the cooler months to come. Here are some of the biggest beauty trends for fall 2010:

  • Hair – One of the hottest shades for hair is the inelegantly named yet almost universally flattering color recently dubbed “bronde.” Also known as “dirty blonde,” this shade combines the best of both worlds: The classiness of a brunette main and the sexiness of blonde hair come together for a beautiful look that can be tailored to flatter any woman’s complexion. Ask your stylist for a medium brown base color, and then add scattered blonde highlights to the top layers of hair. You could also attempt this look on your own with a home highlighting kit – just be careful and follow the directions to a T!
  • Brows – Eyebrows can vary wildly, from pencil thin or even completely drawn on to wild and unruly, and the trend this season is definitely leaning toward the thick side. That doesn’t mean you should toss out your tweezers altogether, however; you’re still going to need them to remove stragglers and shape brows for that bold, groomed look. If your brows aren’t naturally dark, consider investing in some brow powder or pencil. Darkening your brows will help frame your face and draw attention to your eyes.
  • Lips – Dark lips and fall fashion seem to go hand in hand, and this season is no exception. To keep your vampy lips from looking too goth, keep your eye makeup light; stick to mascara and a nude shadow, or skip it altogether. Another difference in the dark lip trend for fall 2010 is the finish. Matte lipstick is out; glossy, moisturizing lipstick pencils are in. These pencils combine the finish of a crème lipstick with the portability of a gloss. You can go high-end with a pencil from NARS or save cash by searching for the drugstore take on the trend offered by Milani.
  • Nails – The big trend this year is nails that are dark yet sparkly, to add extra interest and keep things from looking too severe. Olive greens, purples and taupes are all hot shades – especially when they offer a hint of glamorous glimmer on your fingertips.
